Spicy Shrimp Stir-Fry with Pasta

Spicy Shrimp Stir-Fry with Pasta

I’ve simplified the name of this recipe, but really, it’s so much more than just shrimp stir-fry. It’s bold, spicy, and packed with flavor—everything I love about Asian cuisine. We take shrimp, pasta, and any veggies we have on hand, throw them into a sizzling wok with chili, soy sauce, and fish sauce, then finish it all off with a squeeze of fresh lime juice.

It’s fire—literally and figuratively.

This dish combines bold flavors, spicy heat, and the umami richness of soy and fish sauce, all coming together in a sizzling stir-fry. Here’s the full recipe to make this delicious and vibrant dish.

Ingredients:

  • 200g shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 200g pasta (spaghetti, linguine, or your favorite type)
  • 1 red bell pepper (sliced)
  • 1 small zucchini (sliced into thin half-moons)
  • 1 carrot (julienned or thinly sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 small onion (sliced)
  • 1-2 fresh red chilies (sliced, adjust to taste)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional for added umami)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil (for stir-frying)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
  • Fresh lime (1, juiced)
  • Coriander (for garnish)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Boil a pot of salted water. Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving a little pasta water.
  2. While the pasta cooks, slice the bell pepper, zucchini, and carrot. Set aside.
  3. Heat a wok or large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
  4. Once hot, add the shrimp. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, until they turn pink and are just cooked through. Remove the shrimp from the wok and set aside.
  5. In the same wok, add the sesame oil and sauté the garlic, onion, and chilies for about 30 seconds, until fragrant.
  6. Add the bell pepper, zucchini, and carrot to the wok and stir-fry for another 3-4 minutes, until they are tender but still crisp.
  7. Lower the heat to medium and pour in the soy sauce, fish sauce, and oyster sauce (if using). Stir everything to coat evenly.
  8. Add the cooked pasta to the wok, tossing it with the sauce and vegetables. If the mixture is too dry, add a splash of the reserved pasta water to loosen it up.
  9. Return the shrimp to the wok and toss everything together until well mixed.
  10. Squeeze fresh lime juice over the top and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  11. Garnish with fresh coriander and serve immediately.

Enjoy your fiery, flavorful shrimp stir-fry!

This dish is perfect for a quick and satisfying meal that packs a punch with bold Asian flavors. You can always adjust the spice level to your preference by adding more or fewer chilies. Enjoy!
