Seared Tuna & Sweet Potato Bowl with Greek Yogurt, Chipotle and Lime

Seared Tuna

A fresh, protein-packed bowl built around tender seared tuna and naturally sweet steamed sweet potatoes. This dish balances richness, brightness and a little smoky heat from chipotle sauce. Creamy Greek yogurt adds softness, lime brings acidity, and black sesame gives a nutty crunch.

It’s a simple but very satisfying meal — light, nutritious and full of flavor.

Why this bowl works

This bowl is all about balance:

  • Sweetness from the sweet potatoes
  • Protein and richness from the tuna
  • Fresh herbal brightness from cilantro
  • Creaminess from Greek yogurt
  • Smoky heat from chipotle sauce
  • Acidity from lime juice

The result is a bowl that feels both comforting and refreshing at the same time.

Ingredients (1–2 servings)

  • 1 large sweet potato
  • 200–250 g fresh tuna steak
  • 3–4 tbsp Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • salt and black pepper

Toppings

  • 1 tbsp black sesame seeds
  • small handful fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Tabasco Chipotle sauce (or another smoky chili sauce)
  • lime wedges

Instructions

  1. Cook the sweet potato

Peel the sweet potato and slice it into thin rounds.
Steam for 8–10 minutes until tender but still holding their shape.
You want them soft and creamy, not falling apart.
Set aside.

  1. Prepare the tuna

Pat the tuna steak dry and season both sides with salt and black pepper. Heat a skillet over high heat with a little olive oil. Sear the tuna for about:

  • 30–45 seconds per side for rare
  • 1 minute per side for medium-rare
  • The center should stay pink and tender.

Remove from the pan and slice into thick strips.

  1. Assemble the bowl

Spread Greek yogurt on the bottom of a bowl or plate. Arrange the steamed sweet potato slices on top. Place the sliced seared tuna next to them.

Sprinkle with:

  • black sesame seeds
  • chopped cilantro

Drizzle lightly with chipotle sauce.

Finish with a fresh squeeze of lime.

Serving tips

This bowl is best served immediately while the tuna is still warm.

You can also add:

  • avocado
  • cucumber
  • pickled onions
  • microgreens
  • chili flakes
  • for extra texture and freshness.

It’s a great option for a light dinner, post-workout meal, or healthy lunch.
