Spicy Sesame Fried Tofu Breakfast

Spicy Sesame Fried Tofu Breakfast

When it comes to quick weekday breakfasts, I’m always hunting for that sweet spot between healthy, bold, and ridiculously easy. And friends… this Spicy Sesame Fried Tofu with Chili-Honey Glaze hits it right on target. It’s fast, fiery, and exactly the kind of breakfast that wakes you up better than any coffee.

This recipe is all about contrast: crispy golden tofu cubes seared in a hot pan, a glossy sauce made with soy, oyster sauce, chili, and a touch of honey for balance, plus the crunch of toasted sesame seeds and fresh green onions to finish it off. It’s sticky, spicy, savory-sweet — the kind of dish that feels indulgent but is actually light and protein-packed. Honestly, it’s so satisfying I’d happily eat it on repeat, morning or night.

Ingredients

  • 250 g (9 oz) firm tofu
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1–2 tsp chili sauce (Sriracha or chili paste, adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil (or sesame oil for extra flavor)
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds, toasted
  • 2 spring onions (scallions), finely sliced

Instructions

  1. Prep the tofu
    • Drain the tofu and pat dry with paper towels.
    • Cut into bite-sized cubes.
  2. Pan-fry
    • Heat the oil in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Add tofu cubes and fry for 6–8 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden and crispy on all sides.
  3. Make the glaze
    • In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, and chili sauce.
  4. Glaze it up
    • Pour the sauce into the pan with the tofu.
    • Toss and cook for 1–2 minutes, until the tofu is glossy and coated.
  5. Finish & serve
    • Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and fresh green onions.
    • Serve hot, with rice, noodles, or just as a protein-packed breakfast bowl.

Pro tip: For extra crispiness, toss the tofu cubes lightly in cornstarch before frying.
