Who says instant noodles have to feel like a survival meal? With just a few simple additions, you can turn a 5-minute packet into something cozy, rich, and genuinely satisfying.
The magic is in the contrast: creamy yolk, salty crispy spam, melty cheese, fresh greens, and a little heat from chili sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 pack instant noodles (any flavor you like)
- 1 egg
- 1–2 slices spam
- 1 slice cheese (cheddar or processed cheese works perfectly)
- A handful of fresh greens (spinach, Asian greens, or any tender leaves)
- 1–2 tbsp chopped spring onions
- Chili sauce, to taste
- Optional: a splash of soy sauce or sesame oil
Instructions
1. Cook the noodles
Bring water to a boil and cook the instant noodles according to package instructions. Add the seasoning packet.
When the noodles are almost done, crack the egg directly into the pot. Let it cook gently for 2–3 minutes. For a perfectly runny yolk, avoid stirring and keep the heat moderate.
2. Crisp the spam
While the noodles cook, heat a small pan over medium heat.
Sear the spam slices until golden and crispy on both sides — about 1–2 minutes per side. This step adds texture and deep savory flavor.
3. Assemble the bowl
Transfer the noodles and broth into a bowl.
Place the crispy spam on top.
Add the slice of cheese while everything is still hot so it slightly melts into the broth.
Scatter fresh greens over the top — they will soften slightly from the heat but keep their freshness.
Finish with spring onions and a drizzle of chili sauce.
Tips for the Perfect Bowl
- For an extra creamy texture, gently spoon hot broth over the egg yolk before serving.
- Add a few drops of sesame oil for aroma.
- If you prefer your egg firmer, let it simmer covered for an extra minute.
- Love spice? Add chili oil instead of sauce.
