baked salmon patties

These baked patties are everything you want from comfort food — soft, juicy inside, lightly crisp outside, and full of flavor without being heavy. A perfect way to turn simple ingredients into something really satisfying.

Ingredients

  • 300 g salmon or trout (skinless, boneless)
  • 3 medium potatoes (about 500–600 g)
  • 1 large carrot
  • 1 egg
  • 2–3 tbsp flour or breadcrumbs
  • 1–2 garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 1–2 tbsp olive oil (plus extra for brushing)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Peel the potatoes and carrot. Cut them into evenly sized pieces and place in a pot of salted water.
  2. Bring to a boil and cook for 15–20 minutes, until fully tender.
  3. Drain well and let them sit for a couple of minutes to release excess moisture.
  4. Mash using a fork or potato masher — aim for a slightly textured mash, not completely smooth.
  5. Cook the fish. You can either steam, bake, or pan-cook the salmon: Pan method: cook over medium heat for 3–4 minutes per sideBake: 180°C (350°F) for 12–15 minutes
  6. Let it cool slightly, then flake into small pieces, removing any remaining bones.
  7. In a large bowl, combine:mashed vegetables, flaked fish, egg, garlic, flour or breadcrumbs, salt and pepper.
  8. Mix gently until everything is evenly combined. The mixture should be soft but hold its shape — if too wet, add a bit more flour.
  9. Using your hands, form medium-sized patties (about 6–8 pieces). If the mixture sticks, lightly oil your hands.
  10. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  11. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  12. Place the patties on the tray, leaving space between them.
  13. Lightly brush the tops with olive oil.
  14. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden.
